Why a Virtual CPA office? Glad you asked. Approximately 6 years ago, I had the opportunity of working with several elite e-commerce programmers who were interested in starting a consulting firm. I will never forget that meeting! We met at a 24 hour restaurant since ALL of the programmers worked out of their home offices and NONE were accustomed to being awake before 9 PM. After discussing the various entity choices available, structure and tax implications, I explained how CPA’s did business and all the necessary IRS forms, signatures and face-to-face meetings this new venture would entail. There was DEAD silence!
They sat staring at me with stunned looks on their faces. Finally, after exchanging quick glances with each other, one programmer spoke up and asked WHY ON EARTH DO YOU WANT TO DO THAT!!?? What followed was my first lesson in the possibilities of e-commerce and the future blue print for my very own Virtual CPA Firm. What I had failed to realize was that the principal job of those gathered around the table was to automate the work process for Fortune 100 companies so they didn’t require physical signatures, paper forms and face-to-face meetings.
I realize that some potential clients will never accept the idea of a virtual
CPA firm and I just want to say that I completely understand. But after many
years of working for large SEC member CPA firms, I noticed how few of my clients
ever walked into the office. All communication was through mail, email, fax and
telephone. The expensive art work, impressive office address and giant oak conference
tables went unappreciated and unutilized. There were many clients I would consider
close friends but had never actually met in person.
What are the benefits to you of working with Kelan Roy, CPA? Since I do not
have to pay thru the nose for expensive north Dallas office space, I am able to
reduce my “break-even” client load and invest more of my finances in the things
that really matter but clients rarely ever see such as research materials, computer
equipment and continuing professional education. Lower overhead also affords more
flexibility in determining fee rates and the ability to offer you more consultation
time.
If you are interested in discussing the opportunities of professional services sans the oak conference table, please give me a call or email. (214) 755-3108 Kelan@Kelan.net
